Empathy is an interdisciplinary concept with implications that extend to cultural contexts, genetics and neuroscience. Originally, empathy was intended to explain how people experience inanimate objects and understand other people's mental states. Emotions recognition and genuine concern for the people we are interacting with are the main components of empathy.
